Shell Roles & Radius Checks

Players search for a chart: this target, that shell. We do not have an official, version-checked ammunition table. This page publishes the decision rule we can defend, names a few shells that appear in community play, and stops before inventing radii or unlock order.

The rule that is safe to write

Choose the shell for the target and the mission instruction, not simply the largest blast. Confirm the target icon, friendly positions, and the current version’s ammunition list before you load. The official store lists 30 ammo types as a feature; that is a count, not a permission to copy a third-party table onto this site.

Names you will hear (community context)

Launch-day and Counter-Battery recordings use different shells for different jobs in that session — for example AP when the player is talking about hardened or underground targets, smoke when friendlies are under fire, illumination / Star Shell when the problem is seeing or correcting, and HE-family rounds for area damage. Those are play-session choices, not an official mapping of “always use X vs Y.”

OfficialSteam key features (checked in the 2026-08-14 research record): 30 ammo types. Developer discussion distinguishes Star Shell from Scout Plane as information tools, not as blast shells.

Not published hereBlast radius, fuse behavior, unlock order, stock counts, and any “use this shell against artillery / FDC / trains” answer as a rule. Third-party ammo lists exist; they are not copied here until the current in-game list is checked line by line.
